That is the basic question for the future players in Chronicles of Elyria. And there is no question many players will chose the dark paths - after all, who does not want to play as a vampire or a liche?
Well, farmers and fletchers. You heard me. The basic problem with "dark armies" is logistics. Who joins the "bad guys" to become a baker? Or manager of peasants? Well... me, for one.
The Design Journal #18 on Kingdom and Land Management shows just how much depth Elyria will have. There will be no shortage of mercenary bands or "bad guys": but the risks of committing your County to an evil path is a big call. Die as a Vampire and you are gone. Permadeath start again gone.
So perhaps we should redefine evil, and create a cadre of players who have the maturity and experience to create an Evil Queendom that is a worthy match for the leigons of 'good' players out there. If nothing else, it's a fun thought.

Chornicles of Elyria is an online game for PC being developed by Soulbound Studios http://soulboundstudios.com which has a bold and fresh design. Quite simply: if you like online games, check it out. If you do not like online games then I hope you enjoy my fiction story as it slowly unfolds.
Story. It's just my view, but where most games are about hacking and slashing your way to the next gear set just in time to buy the next expansion and start all over, this game is all about story. And we already know that the story arc on each server (EU, NA, Oz) could be different based on player actions. If we fail, our story will change rather than sleep walking to victory.
What fantasy story isn't better with an 'Evil Queen'? Let's add one.
